BOWLS is a sport which is enjoyed by players of all ages. A minimum level of fitness is required together with an enjoyment of gentle exercise, fresh air, and friendly company. It is an ideal way to shake off the restrictions of the Covid pandemic.
Fishburn Bowls Club welcomes anyone, male or female, with an interest in outdoor bowling. Young children have to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Membership is not restricted to Fishburn residents, currently members have been attracted to the Club from Sedgefield, Trimdon and Thorpe Thewles. Informal coaching is readily available at no cost and without commitment.
There is no dress code beyond the wearing of shoes with flat soles. If a member wishes to play in the club competitions then the dress code is adhered to. This is generally grey trousers/skirt below the waist and white shirt/blouse etc above the waist.
Annual membership provides access to the bowling green and the clubhouse by way of a key to the gate and the clubhouse. The green is generally available for play between the end of April and the beginning of September subject to the agreement of the Green Keeper and currently any Covid restrictions. Between these dates members can use the green as frequently as they choose without further charge. There are a number of sets of bowls at the club which can be used by potential members to help them decide if the sport is to their liking before they incur any expense.
The Covid pandemic has resulted in the Club withdrawing this year from the 4 leagues in which it normally competes. The membership will however compete in the Club’s own competitions and it is planned that these competitions will be held on two designated days of each week during the season. Further details will be available in due course.
